Germany Commits €588 Million to H2Global Hydrogen Tenders

Germany has taken a significant step in accelerating global green hydrogen production by officially committing up to €588 million for bilateral H2Global tenders with Canada and Australia. This announcement is part of a broader collaboration, with Canada and Australia also pledging substantial funds, bringing the total tender volume to an impressive €1.2 billion.

The announcement follows declarations of intent signed in 2024 by the three nations, reinforcing their shared vision of a clean energy future. Timo Bollerhey, CEO of Hintco and co-founder of H2Global, hailed this development as a milestone in global climate action:

“At a time of increasing uncertainty, Germany’s firm commitment to its bilateral tenders with Canada and Australia is encouraging, showcasing how governments can together leverage innovative instruments such as H2Global to tackle climate change.”

Strengthening Global Hydrogen Production Through Collaboration

The bilateral tenders represent a new era of collaboration between exporting and importing nations. While Australia and Canada will oversee production in their territories, Germany will play a critical role in securing state aid notification for the tenders from the EU Commission. Once the process is finalized, Hintco will provide details on tender processes, eligible projects, and timelines for applications.

Australia has already committed €400 million to co-finance its tender with Germany, while Canada has pledged C$300 million ($208 million) for its joint auction. These investments underline the growing global interest in hydrogen as a clean energy solution and a vital part of the transition to net zero emissions.

Diversifying Global Hydrogen Production

These partnerships are expected to diversify clean hydrogen production, providing a stable and competitive supply of green hydrogen and derivatives. Germany’s bilateral tenders with Canada and Australia aim to replicate the success of its forthcoming collaboration with the Netherlands, further solidifying H2Global's position as an innovative instrument for international climate initiatives.
