PM Modi inaugurates a 15 MW solar power project in Gujarat’s Morbi District, marking a major step towards renewable energy. The project will reduce carbon emissions and support the rural economy.
In a significant boost to India’s renewable energy efforts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated a 15 MW grid-connected solar power project in Vitthalpar, Morbi District, Gujarat. The project, developed by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) at a cost of ₹94.5 crore, is set to produce 30.88 million units of electricity annually, reducing carbon emissions by 24,000 tonnes. This marks a major stride toward sustainable energy and strengthening Gujarat’s green energy infrastructure.
Boosting Renewable Energy in Gujarat
The inauguration, which took place during PM Modi’s visit to Gujarat, was attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Energy Minister Kanubhai Desai. The solar project is expected to provide affordable electricity to local farmers, ensuring reliable power supply during the daytime. This not only contributes to the rural economy but also aligns with the state’s decarbonization goals.
The facility is projected to play a vital role in Gujarat’s efforts to transition to renewable energy, emphasizing both economic growth and environmental sustainability.
Prozeal Green Energy Leading Solar Projects
The project was designed, engineered, procured, and constructed by Prozeal Infra Renewable, an associate of Ahmedabad-based Prozeal Green Energy Limited. Prozeal Green Energy has been a pioneer in India’s renewable energy sector, and its involvement in this project underscores its commitment to helping India achieve a clean energy future.
Manan Thakkar, Managing Director of Prozeal Green Energy Limited, remarked, “We are honored to be a part of this 15 MW solar PV project inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This project will contribute significantly to meeting the green energy needs of the region while supporting rural economic development.”
Ongoing Solar Initiatives by GSECL and Prozeal Infra Renewable
This project is one of many solar ventures under GSECL’s umbrella. Prozeal Infra Renewable has been entrusted with the design, engineering, construction, and commissioning of seven more solar power projects for GSECL. With a combined capacity of 131 MW and an investment of around ₹750 crore, these projects are currently in advanced stages of construction and are expected to be commissioned in the next six to eight months. These new solar plants, located on government wasteland, represent a key strategy in Gujarat’s sustainable energy generation efforts by maximizing land use.
Prozeal’s Expansion in Nepal
Further expanding its green energy footprint, Prozeal Green Energy Limited recently entered a joint venture with Nepal’s Golyan Power Limited to develop solar rooftop and ground-mounted photovoltaic solar plants. The JV plans to establish over 500 MW of solar projects in Nepal within the next 18 months, emphasizing Prozeal’s expanding influence in the renewable energy sector across South Asia.
Gujarat’s Commitment to a Net-Zero Future
This 15 MW solar project is part of Gujarat’s broader vision to reduce carbon emissions and shift toward a clean energy future. With multiple projects underway, GSECL and its partners, including Prozeal Green Energy, are leading the charge in India’s green energy transformation, contributing significantly to the state’s and country’s goal of becoming net-zero.
